The self-proclaimed guitar-goddess, The Great Kat (one of the top 10 fastest shredders of all time, according to Guitar One Magazine) has recently released her Extreme Guitar Shred DVD and Wagner’s War CD.

She has appeared on many televised events, including NBC’s Weekend Today”, where she played Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight Of The Bumble-Bee and Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.

A search through her website will provide numerous clips of her outrageous performances.

She is renowned amongst guitar shredders as being the fastest woman on the planet, the virtuoso violinist who has devoted her skill to transcribing classical music to shred guitar, and the outspoken advocate of the woman’s role in the guitar arena.

Her music is known for its speed, counterpoint complexity, heavy rhythms and riffs, and demonic screams, and she offers no compromise in her transcriptions, or indeed her performances.

Although many find her music tasteless, confrontational or even pointless, it is certainly groundbreaking in its speed, aggression and virtuosity. Amongst her idols are Paganini (who in his day was known as “the Devil’s Son” and “Witch’s Brat”), and Beethoven, of whom she proclaims, “all composers after Beethoven are boring”!

Her new CD is undoubtedly a challenging listen, and fans will find blinding classical-metal songs, each lasting approximately 1 or 2 minutes, which will leave them breathless and exhausted. But this is the essence of music according to the Great Kat.

Music’s value lies in its virtuosity, and those who cannot command the technique required to be classed as ‘virtuoso’ are simply lazy and puerile.

On Wagner’s War, you will find transcriptions of Wagner’s The Ride of the Valkyries, Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody #2, and Sarasate’s Zapateado. On the DVD, you will find totally insane shred versions of Wagner, Liszt, Vivaldi, Bazzini and Sarasate.

Guitarist TV has signed copies of The Great Kat's CDs and DVDs to give away – simply email The Great Kat with your NAME and a MAILING ADDRESS and answer the following question correctly:
